Emily McAuliffe is a
freelance writer and photographer based in Brisbane. Her photo gallery captures
images from her travels through Europe, the USA and Asia, as well as places
closer to home. She spent her childhood in Far North Queensland and lived on
the Gold Coast for a number of years, so her photography collection reflects an
affinity with both the country and the beach.
Please don’t
hesitate to get in touch via her website if you are interested in purchasing
any of her photos. Photos are available for sale as framed and canvas prints and Emily will happily customise formats and sizes to meet
your needs.
How do you create your work?
I use a Nikon camera to shoot my photos, and despite being on the
heavy side, I carry it around whenever I think there might be a good photo
opportunity. That way I can pull it out if a good shot presents itself.
I also paint and tend to use a somewhat haphazard approach - often
I don’t know what I’m creating until after I start. I use a similarly casual
approach when cooking and sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn’t!
What inspires you to create?
I’m inspired by my surroundings. I’m always
on the lookout for a different angle, a beautiful object or an interesting
landscape. I see potential photographs in nearly everything, and I’m always
trying to frame pictures in my mind. Whether or not I actually have my camera
with me is another story!
What are your hopes for the
future?
I hope to make more time to be creative. I get such enjoyment out
of photography, writing and art, but it’s always a time challenge. I’ve got an
overseas trip planned for the end of the year so I’m looking forward to taking
some new photos abroad. Travel always provides creative inspiration so I hope
to take many more trips in the future, but there’s also plenty of inspiration
in your own backyard if you look for it.
I’m also hoping to exhibit my work more widely.
Name a few things that make you
happy?
My family and friends, of course, as well as summer (definitely
not a fan of the cold), being outdoors, dining out and reading a good book.
Who are some of your favourite
Artists?
If I had to pick a famous artist I’d say Vincent Van Gogh, and in
terms of photography, I like the work of Mark Gray and Mark Lobo. It’s
difficult to pick favourites because I see work I like all over the place.
I always ask who peoples
favourite music artists are as I like to stick a clip at the end.
My all-time favourite band would have to be The Corrs.
There's something so timeless about the rose. This one would make a great gift for a girl.
With the ability to swim against the current, the Japanese Carp pictured here are considered a symbol of strength and determination. Hang this photo as a source of inspiration in your home or office.
The presence of a chewy bone at the lion's feet creates a sense of innocence, but her watchful stare suggests otherwise. This shot perfectly captures the tame and wild side of a lion in captivity.
A lone lamp switches on as the sun goes down over a Japanese temple.
This orange was spotted at a cellar door in the Barossa Valley and looks so clean and simple hanging against the white wall. This would be a good one to hang in the kitchen.
What are they all looking at? Choose your own adventure because I have no idea!
